Best Practices for the Chair Stand-30 Activity

Learn how to determine proper chair placement for the Chair Stand-30 Activity.

It's important to note that TRAZER XP can only detect humans, it does not detect objects, such as a chair. When a chair is utilized during an Activity, proper placement is critical for the Activity to work as intended.

In most cases, we do not recommend the use of tape to mark locations on the floor. For the purposes of proper chair placement for the TUG and Chair Stand-30 Activities, we do recommend marking the floor to easily and quickly ensure the chair is properly positioned.

Follow the instructions below to determine proper chair placement.

1. Ensure the chair is positioned behind the center of the grid.

2. Calibrate sitting at the edge of the chair. This ensures the chair stays behind the target, and the User stands to hit the green ball without being too far forward to hit it.

3. When the green ball appears, stand from the chair. Once the ball is hit and the yellow ring appears, sit to clear it. Repeat as many times as possible during the 30-second duration.

If the green ball was not hit when the User stood up, this could mean they were too far forward. Move the chair back a few inches and try again.

Once you have found the proper chair location, use tape to mark where the front legs of the chair should be positioned for future reference.

With proper chair placement, the targets can be properly hit, even when the User cannot stand fully upright, as demonstrated below.
