Best Practices for the TUG Activity

Learn how to determine proper chair placement for the TUG Activity.

It's important to note that TRAZER XP can only detect humans, it does not detect objects, such as a chair. When a chair is utilized during an Activity, proper placement is critical for the Activity to work as intended.

In most cases, we do not recommend the use of tape to mark locations on the floor. For the purposes of proper chair placement for the TUG and Chair Stand-30 Activities, we do recommend marking the floor to easily and quickly ensure the chair is properly positioned.

Follow the instructions below to determine proper chair placement.

1. Ensure the chair is positioned on the back grid line. The center of the chair should be approximately 12.5 feet from the Unit. (Chair size may slightly affect this recommended distance. It may take a trial or two to find the best position for your chair.)

2. Calibrate in the center of the field. Move to the back of the field and sit in the chair directly over the start point circle.

3. When the target appears, stand and walk to the target. Once hit, and the rear target appears, walk back to the chair and sit. You should have hit the rear target while sitting back into the chair.

If the target was hit prematurely, move the chair forward a few inches and try again.

Once you have found the proper chair location, use tape to mark where the front legs of the chair should be positioned for future reference.

With proper chair placement, the Activity should end when the User fully sits into the chair as demonstrated below.
